A night flight over Italy

Luca Parmitano is an Italian astronaut and a military pilot. He is one of those few people that make me proud of being Italian. About a month ago, he became the first Italian to make a spacewalk (video of Luca’s spacewalk). In the past he was also awarded with the Medaglia d’Argento al Valore Aeronautico for safely landing his AMX in severe emergency conditions.

At the moment he is taking part in Expedition 36, a long-duration mission to the International Space Station. Luca keeps a blog and he updates it with frequent posts also during the mission. I find reading his blog very inspiring. While I read his short stories, I often find myself wondering how would it feel being up there inside the Space Station. And Luca is really an excellent writer: reading his posts is always a pleasure, he is able to describe what he sees and what happens up there through a truly engaging and exciting language (at least in the Italian version of the blog, the one I usually read).

This is one of the most beautiful blog posts I have ever read: Night Flight (with apologies to De Saint-Exupery)

Really breath taking. Thank you, Luca.
